The couple was previously the foster parents to the two children they are now able to adopt. They petitioned to adopt the 10 & 6-year-old siblings last year; they were denied but now the Maine Supreme Judicial Court have ruled that the law does not prohibit two unmarried people from adopting a child together.

“Ulrike Boehmer at the Boston University of Public Health used data from the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth to compare population estimates of obesity across sexual orientation groups” and found that “lesbians were 2.69 times more likely to be overweight and 2.47 times more likely to be obese than their heterosexual counterparts.”
While these researchers are concerned with the health outcomes that obesity produces; they acknowledge that it may be a result of different beauty standards among lesbians than heteros.
