Take a Stand and Ban!

I have just learned that there is currently a boycott going on with two major grocery store chains. The Kroger Co. and Harris Teeter.

According to HRC.org, the store chains are refusing to sell local GLBT newspapers. This has started in Nashville with the support of The Equality Project. It’s estimated that if a large scale boycott goes into effect, it could cost each of them approximatley $800,000 a year in losses.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to support those chains. Let’s help Tennesee make their point. Because this effects all of us!

So Proud…

So, I’ve only been out for two years. Yes, only two years! And with each passing day, I have become more and more comfortable with myself and really understanding what it means to be proud. For a long time, as with many of you out there, I was so afraid of opening that closet door to see what was on the otherside. So afraid in fact, that it took almost getting married to a man to finally come out!

Now, I have my moments when I get more nervous about being out. Like at work for example. At a previous job I had told 3 people. But I would begg them not to tell anyone. I thought “I don’t want to get fired!” I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable!” What a horrible way to go to work!

Now, at my new place of employment, at a Fortune 10 company, big worldwide company, I heard about this new diversity group called GLOBAL. It stands for Gay and Lesbian Organization for Business and Leadership. I thought, “WOW! I can feel safe here.!” Immediatley I wanted in! I wanted to be apart of this group and help my good friend who was heading it up. I was gonna go and be proud of myself! Then I realized, I needed permission from my boss… Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks Columbus Pride!!

We had another great time at the Pride Festival in Columbus Ohio this past weekend!

Thanks to all who came out to see us!

Mindy from Cincinnati, it’s always great to see you! I promise you’ll have your very own Pride Kitty painting soon! Thanks for coming out and hope to see you again soon! (If you’d like a Pride Kitty painting, go to www.nextgenerationpride.com)

I have to say that I don’t think we gave out nearly as many hugs as we did in Cincy. Strange because its a bigger event in Columbus. Maybe next year we’ll just get a bigger sign! :-) But the hugs we did get were great! There were alot of topless girls out there too! Strange no hugs from them!

By no means am I complaining, but not something you’d see at Cincinnati Pride. And if there was, I’m sorry I missed it! haha

So, don’t forget to keep checking in with us here to see where we might be next! Thanks again for making this Pride so great! We loved meeting everyone!

Happy Pride!!

Is It Alright? Or Do We Fight?

We all know that a lot of bad things happen to good people all over the world, everyday. When it comes to the GLBT community, our community, what do we do? Do you fight, or leave it alone? Do you think to yourself, “well, its not happening to me personally, so why bother?” Or, “Its a shame but what can I do about?” Or the famous line that I always hear “Get used to it, it happens.” That’s not acceptable to me and I will never get “used to” that. For those who fight for equality everyday, I say thank you. But what about the rest of us? What can we do? Read the rest of this entry »
