Are you Kidding Me?

Okay, so I’ve been waiting to share something with you about a website I found last week. My plan was to read around the site, get a feel for what this organization is about to make sure I convey a clear and accurate description and intent of those who produce it. However today I have to say….Are you kidding me?

Now I realize that there are alot of people who don’t like anyone from the GLBT community. Alot of their reasons are religious ones. I always try to keep an open mind and try to keep in mind that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. OPINION. Key word. But for those who believe so profoundly in what their religion is telling them, that they don’t see lies from opinions.

The website I speak of is www.worldnetdaily.com. I’ve mentioned them once before. And if I went to their website everyday, I’d have to report more ignorance than the last time.

So, the “story” I read today is about Mary Cheney. As you know, she and partner Heather had their son Daniel last week. Well, the picture and caption that was released has caused quite a stir in the far right conservative world apparently. Why you ask? According to Worldnetdaily.com, the orginal White House released photo read, “Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne Cheney, welcomed their sixth grandchild, Samuel David Cheney, Wednesday, May 23, 2007. He weighed 8 lbs., 6 oz and was born at 9:46 a.m. at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C. His parents are the Cheneys’ daughter Mary, and her partner, Heather Poe. White House photo by David Bohrer.”

Now to a normal person there’s nothing wrong with that statement. Well, since it reads the word “parents” its got all those holy rollers undies in a bunch! You know, I know that this argument has been out there for a while, but GET A GRIP!

Worldnetdaily.com, stop with the ignorant, discriminatory and down right idiotic stories! Get your head out of your God’s ass and take a look at the real life human beings that surround you. Stop adding to the hatred of the world. Stop trying to feed to others what your idea of living a faith-based life in the eyes of Christ is. But you don’t have to stop trying to make us all “Ex Gays”! It doesn’t work. Just ask John Paulk of Exodus International! :-)

I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember the last time Christ, or God, or Allah or Buddah or any higher power was preaching to their sheep about how to instill hatred into ones heart. Maybe I missed that day of Bible Class.

Now, I’m sure you all are thinking that I’m stark raging mad. But really I’m not. All I’m going to do is whenever I see Worldnetdaily.com posting another ridiculous, ignorant and hate breeding story, I’m going to bring it right to you.

Take a look at the website…see for yourself.

Warning: The viewing of this website may bring laughter, jokes, rolling eyes and other emotions associated with a website like this.

Matthew Shepard Act

Love Conquers HateThe Senate will be voting this week to determine whether or not to include GLBT’s in the Hate Crime Bill. They’ve added this addendum to the bill called the Matthew Sheppard Bill.

Matthew was the young man who was brutally murdered and hung from a fence for being gay. The town it happened in went bankrupt and fired half the police force because they couldn’t get federal funding.

Write to your Senators and tell them to pass this Bill! And let’s hope that GW doesn’t veto this one. It’s too important to everyone, gay, straight, transgender. It doesn’t matter.

A great source on how to contact your Senator or write to your local newpaper editor is to go to www.hrc.org. On the front page you’ll see “Love Conquers Hate”. That’s where you’ll find all the information you need.

What are you waiting for? This country isn’t going to change itself! Get out there and make a difference!!!

Debating – Elisabeth Hasselbeck Style

Well, now you know that Rosie is not coming back to The View. She has decided that enough is enough. And once again, I don’t blame her!

Have you ever had a heated discussion/debate with a Republican? Its very hard to follow. All the changing stories and run-around responses. It’s enough to drive anyone crazy!

I’ve had many debates with the only two republican friends I have, and it always goes two ways:

1. Completely avoid answering a question.

OR

2. Completely avoid answering a question and throw in some insults for good measure.

Hmm…now who does that sound like? The only difference between my republican friends and the President of the United States is that my friends are educated enough to be able to pronounce words like Nuclear!

So, tell me…given the situation with Rosie and Elisabitch, I mean, Elisabeth, tell me about your arguements with Republicans. Do you get the same type of avoidance and insults as I do? Maybe its a GOP thing…..

So what are some good tactics you use when debating or discussing issues with a Republican? Tell us your secret!

Friday’s Fast Track

Vice President Cheney’s daughter Mary Cheney and partner Heather Poe gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Samuel David Cheney on Thursday, May 24th. Congrats Mary and Heather!

Proud Grandparents

Issiah Washington (Grey’s star Dr. Burke) has agreed to appear in a public annoucement commerical about how “words have power” to hurt people. This comes after his anti-gay comments to T.R Knight (George) on the set of filming Grey’s. The commercial is due to air on ABC during the reruns of Grey’s Anatomy. The agreement was reached during a meeting with GLSEN and GLAAD.

Organizers of the 22nd annual AIDS Walk in New York last weekend announced that it was their largest and most successful. The walk set records for both participation and fundraising with 45,000 walkers who helped to raise a grand total of over $6 million.

Congressional leaders are questioning the Pentagon over news that more linguists have been fired from the military for being gay. Members of Congress are calling for a hearing into why 56 Arab linguists have been fired at a time when service members with language skills are already in short supply.

Is the FDA Anti-Gay?

When I read an article today on www.msnbc.com about the FDA’s barring of gay men from giving blood for life, I was upset. Why would they do this? I mean, I understand the HIV/AIDS risk, but the last time I checked gay men aren’t the only people who can transmit this disease. African American women right now have the highest rate of HIV/AIDS cases in the United States. Does that mean that anyone, male or female that has had sexual relations with an African American women should be barred too? Now, I did a little research and here is what I found out:

According to the FDA website, this has been the standard since 1977. When asked the question, “Is FDA’s policy of excluding MSM blood donors discriminatory?” The answer reads:

FDA’s deferral policy is based on the documented increased risk of certain transfusion transmissible infections, such as HIV, associated with male-to-male sex and is not based on any judgment concerning the donor’s sexual orientation.

Male to male sex has been associated with an increased risk of HIV infection at least since 1977. Surveillance data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that men who have sex with men and would be likely to donate have a HIV prevalence that is at present over 15 fold higher than the general population, and over 2000 fold higher than current repeat blood donors (i.e., those who have been negatively screened and tested) in the USA. MSM continue to account for the largest number of people newly infected with HIV.

Men who have sex with men also have an increased risk of having other infections that can be transmitted to others by blood transfusion.

Now, I hope you read that carefully because what I didn’t see through my immediate “they’re against gays” initial reaction was that they are talking about the rate of transmission. Does that make it any better? What if the gay man who has had sex since 1977 has been in a monogomous relationship? Or practices safe sex? You would think that would put them at a lower risk of transmission right? So what does the FDA say about that?

Having had a low number of partners is known to decrease the risk of HIV infection. However, to date, no donor eligibility questions have been shown to reliably identify a subset of MSM (e.g., based on monogamy or safe sexual practices) who do not still have a substantially increased rate of HIV infection compared to the general population or currently accepted blood donors. In the future, improved questionnaires may be helpful to better select safe donors, but this cannot be assumed without evidence.

WHAT?? So, what if there was a previous IV drug user, who has turn his/her life around and wants to donate blood? I guess at this point they’ll still take it and test it for abnormal antibodies. But shouldn’t that be what they do for everyone? Not every gay man is going to be HIV+ and I think that assuming so is discriminatory and wrong.

Do you think this is an acceptable practice within the FDA? Do you think MSM should be barred for life? Or do you think that’s a bit extreme?

Tell me your thoughts….
